Zoe-Anne Climbs Every Mountain
Zoe-Anne always wanted to be an opera singer, but she realized she didn’t have the fire-in-the-belly drive, nor the stamina to face constant rejection required to get to the point where she could become a professional opera singer. Fortunately, she had the other gifts needed to get her through university and attain her nursing degrees, but she never stopped loving the opera and singing.
She had several rounds of singing experience during our time together. In 2002 and 2003, she had been taking private voice lessons, and on Feb 22, 2003, she took part in a small recital at the teacher’s home. I took my camera and captured her singing three songs. The last song was “Climb Every Mountain” from The Sound of Music. As I listened and watched the video, I realized that in many ways, this was the story of Zoe’s life, at least the story of her working life. I put the video up on her memorial/tribute websites so people could see how beautiful she was, how lovely her voice was, and how that song represents her working career.
